Arwy guide: writing and publishing a book

Arwy isn't just for reading — it's for writing, too. If you've got a story in you, this guide walks you through every screen of the writing journey, from a blank page to a published book with readers arriving.

The beauty of writing on Arwy is that you publish into a place full of readers, chapter by chapter. No gatekeepers, no waiting years. Let's go from idea to "it's live."

Tip: you don't need a finished book to start. Most great stories on Arwy began as one chapter and the nerve to keep going.

1. Create a new book

From your books area, tap to create a new book. Give it a title and pick up to five genres (these help the right readers find you). Don't agonize — everything here is editable later, including the title.

2. Write in the chapter editor

The editor is clean and stays out of your way. Write as much or as little as you like. A couple of things working quietly in the background:

  • Auto-saved drafts — close the app mid-sentence and nothing is lost.
  • Add chapters any time — write the story the way it actually comes to you.
  • Change protection — if you hit back with unsaved changes, Arwy double-checks before discarding.

3. Polish with AI spell-check

Tap the AI spell-check button (the magic-wand icon) and Arwy cleans up typos and small slips. Crucially, it never changes a word without your approval — you see the corrected version next to your original and decide whether to apply it. Your voice stays your voice.

4. Add a cover, blurb and warnings

A good cover earns the first click, and a sharp blurb earns the read. Add yours, and if your story has mature or sensitive themes, set the content warnings honestly — it helps the right readers find you and keeps everyone comfortable. (We have a whole post on writing a blurb and choosing a cover.)

5. Publish

Hit publish and your book is live to the world — it can appear in Discover, in readers' feeds, and, the magic part: as people read it, Arwy matches them with each other through your story. You didn't just publish a book; you created a little meeting place.

6. Manage your book

Your published and draft books live in your books area. Open one to manage it: edit the title, mark it complete or ongoing, add or remove chapters, unpublish, and more. Your "Continue Writing" row on the home screen also jumps you straight back into a work-in-progress.

Then: keep showing up

The writers who find readers are the ones who keep going — adding chapters, replying to comments (readers can even leave notes on a specific line), and sharing their work. Need a spark? Try our 30 writing prompts. Totally new? Start with how to write a book with no experience.
