- Make it readable as a thumbnail. Most people first see your cover tiny. If the title's unreadable at small size, it's not working.
- Keep it simple. One strong image and a clear title beats a busy collage every time.
The blurb: a simple formula that works
A great back-cover blurb isn't a summary — it's bait. Don't tell the whole plot; create a question the reader needs answered. Try this shape:
- The hook — one or two lines that set up your character and their normal world.
- The turn — the thing that goes wrong, the choice, the stakes. What changes everything?
- The cliffhanger — end on tension or a question, not a resolution. Make them need to know.
Keep it short — 100 to 200 words. Read it out loud; if you'd keep reading, it's working. If you're bored, cut.
